HISTORY OF WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL A History of Tradition, Honor, Evolution, and Commitment to Karate-Do The history of WKT – World Karate-Do Traditional dates back to October 31, 2013, when the organization was founded under the name WKTC – World Karate-Do Traditional Confederation. From its foundation, the organization has been committed to the development and promotion of Traditional Karate-Do, preserving its fundamental principles while also adapting to the evolution of sport and the changing needs of contemporary Karate-Do. 2014 — 1st WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP In November 2014, the 1st WKTC World Traditional Karate-Do Championship was held in Brazil, in the State of Minas Gerais. This event marked the beginning of an international journey of World Championships, bringing together practitioners and representatives from different countries through Karate-Do. 2016 — 2nd WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP In November 2016, the 2nd World Traditional Karate-Do Championship was held in Argentina, continuing the international project initiated in 2014. The event strengthened the organization's international presence and expanded integration among representatives and practitioners of Karate-Do. 2018 — 3rd WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP In November 2018, the 3rd World Championship was held in Brazil, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The third edition consolidated the continuity of the World Championships and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to the international promotion of Traditional Karate-Do. 2020 AND 2021 — NEW FORMS OF PARTICIPATION During the period when international in-person activities were affected by the pandemic, the organization sought alternative ways to maintain integration among its practitioners. During this period, International Kata Championships were held virtually, allowing the organization to maintain international participation and connection despite the exceptional circumstances. These initiatives demonstrated the organization's ability to adapt to an unprecedented period while preserving its fundamental principles and objectives. 2023 — 4th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP In December 2023, following the interruption caused by the pandemic, the 4th World Traditional Karate-Do Championship was held in Brazil, in the State of Pernambuco. The event represented an important milestone in the continuation and renewal of the organization's international journey, marking the return of major in-person World Championship events. 2024 — A NEW PHASE: WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL On August 9, 2024, the organization entered a new institutional phase. The name WKTC – World Karate-Do Traditional Championship was discontinued, and the organization adopted its new official name: WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL This change does not represent the beginning of a new history, but rather the continuation of a journey established since 2013, now under a broader and more contemporary identity aligned with the organization's international objectives. WKT strengthens a vision that brings together tradition and modernity, preserving the fundamental values of Karate-Do while embracing the evolution of sport, sports administration, event organization, and international integration. TRADITION AND MODERNITY WKT believes that preserving Karate-Do does not mean remaining disconnected from progress and evolution. Our vision is to preserve the essence and traditional values of Karate-Do, guided by principles rooted in Japanese tradition, such as respect, discipline, honor, ethics, character, and responsibility, while developing a modern, organized organization prepared for the challenges of the international sporting environment. Therefore, tradition and modernity are not opposing paths. Tradition preserves the essence. Modernity enables its evolution. It is through this balance that WKT intends to continue building its history. AN ORGANIZATION FOR KARATE-DO WORLDWIDE WKT recognizes the diversity that exists within Karate-Do and welcomes the major styles, schools, and traditions of Karate-Do recognized worldwide. The organization seeks to promote an environment of respect, integration, cooperation, and unity, allowing different organizations and practitioners to participate in an international community while preserving their own identities, characteristics, and traditions. A NEW ERA BEGINNING IN 2026 Beginning in 2026, WKT enters a new phase of expansion and development of its World Championships, establishing the event as an annual World Championship. The 5th WKT World Karate-Do Championship, scheduled for November 28–29, 2026, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, represents the beginning of this new phase and the continuation of a history that began in 2013. HISTÓRIA DA WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL Uma história de tradição, honra, evolução e compromisso com o Karate-Do A história da WKT – World Karate-Do Traditional tem suas raízes em 31 de outubro de 2013, quando foi fundada a organização que, naquele período, era denominada WKTC – World Karate-Do Traditional Confederation. Desde sua origem, a organização teve como propósito contribuir para o desenvolvimento e a valorização do Karate-Do Tradicional, preservando seus princípios fundamentais e, ao mesmo tempo, acompanhando a evolução das práticas esportivas e das necessidades do Karate-Do contemporâneo. 2014 — 1º CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL Em novembro de 2014, foi realizado no Brasil, no Estado de Minas Gerais, o 1º Campeonato Mundial de Karate-Do Tradicional WKTC. Esse evento marcou o início de uma trajetória internacional de competições mundiais, reunindo praticantes e representantes de diferentes países em torno do Karate-Do. 2016 — 2º CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL Em novembro de 2016, foi realizado na Argentina o 2º Campeonato Mundial de Karate-Do Tradicional, dando continuidade ao projeto internacional iniciado em 2014. O evento fortaleceu a presença internacional da organização e ampliou a integração entre diferentes representantes e praticantes do Karate-Do. 2018 — 3º CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL Em novembro de 2018, o 3º Campeonato Mundial foi realizado no Brasil, no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. A terceira edição consolidou a continuidade dos Campeonatos Mundiais e reafirmou o compromisso da organização com a promoção internacional do Karate-Do Tradicional. O site oficial da WKT mantém registros históricos e materiais referentes às edições de 2014, 2016 e 2018. 2020 E 2021 — NOVOS FORMATOS DE PARTICIPAÇÃO Durante o período em que as atividades presenciais internacionais foram afetadas pela pandemia, a organização buscou alternativas para manter a integração entre seus praticantes. Nesse período, foram realizados Campeonatos Internacionais de Kata em formato virtual, registrados no histórico oficial da organização. Essas iniciativas demonstraram a capacidade de adaptação da organização diante de um período excepcional, sem abandonar seus princípios e objetivos. 2023 — 4º CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL Em dezembro de 2023, após o período de interrupção provocado pela pandemia, foi realizado no Brasil, no Estado de Pernambuco, o 4º Campeonato Mundial de Karate-Do Tradicional, representando a retomada dos grandes eventos mundiais presenciais. A realização desse campeonato marcou um momento importante de continuidade e renovação da trajetória internacional da organização. O site oficial registra a edição de 2023 como o 4th WKT World Championship. 2024 — UMA NOVA FASE: WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL Em 09 de agosto de 2024, teve início uma nova etapa institucional. A denominação WKTC – World Karate-Do Traditional Confederation foi encerrada e a organização passou a adotar oficialmente o nome: WKT – WORLD KARATE-DO TRADITIONAL Essa mudança não representa o início de uma nova história, mas a continuidade de uma trajetória construída desde 2013, agora sob uma identidade mais ampla, atualizada e adequada aos novos objetivos internacionais da organização. A WKT passa a fortalecer uma visão que une tradição e modernidade, preservando os valores fundamentais do Karate-Do e, simultaneamente, acompanhando a evolução do esporte, da administração esportiva, da organização de eventos e da integração internacional. TRADIÇÃO E MODERNIDADE A WKT entende que preservar o Karate-Do não significa permanecer distante da evolução. Nossa visão é preservar a essência e os valores tradicionais do Karate-Do, tendo como referência princípios da tradição japonesa, como respeito, disciplina, honra, ética, caráter e responsabilidade, enquanto desenvolvemos uma organização moderna, organizada e preparada para os desafios do cenário esportivo internacional. Assim, tradição e modernidade não são caminhos opostos. A tradição preserva a essência. A modernidade permite sua evolução. É nesse equilíbrio que a WKT pretende continuar construindo sua história. UMA ORGANIZAÇÃO PARA O KARATE-DO MUNDIAL A WKT reconhece a diversidade existente no Karate-Do e acolhe os principais estilos, escolas e tradições reconhecidos mundialmente. A organização busca promover um ambiente de respeito, integração, cooperação e união, permitindo que diferentes organizações e praticantes possam participar de uma comunidade internacional sem perder suas próprias características e tradições. O próprio posicionamento atual da WKT declara que a organização é destinada a todos os estilos de Karate-Do reconhecidos mundialmente. UMA NOVA ERA A PARTIR DE 2026 A partir de 2026, a WKT inicia uma nova etapa de expansão e desenvolvimento de seus Campeonatos Mundiais, estabelecendo a realização anual do evento. O 5º Campeonato Mundial WKT, programado para 28 e 29 de novembro de 2026, em Recife, Pernambuco – Brasil, representa o início dessa nova fase e a continuidade de uma história que começou em 2013. O site oficial já apresenta Recife como sede do 5º Campeonato Mundial. UMA HISTÓRIA. UMA IDENTIDADE.
